The safety of rowers and scullers
is paramount to the club. The club has adopted the ARA Water Safety
Code, carried out its own risk assessments and produced a supplement
to the ARA code, specific to rowing on the Cardiff Bay lake and
rivers.
The Cardiff Habour Authority provides
details of river flows and windspeeds plus any restrictions. Before
each water session the CHA should be contacted to confirm conditions
are suitable (tel. 02920 700234).
CHA issues Notices to Mariners
whenever restrictions or changes are put in place (see Cardiff
Harbour - Notices)
Cardiff City Rowing Club (CCRC)
is affiliated to the Welsh Amateur Rowing Association which in
turn is affiliated to the Amateur Rowing Association (ARA) . Therefore,
CCRC is bound by the ARA Water Safety Code. Additionally CCRC
has drawn up local rules which are specific to the Cardiff Bay
body of water.
Membership of CCRC is conditional
on accepting and compliance with the Water Safety Code and the
local rules. Members must be familiar these codes and comply with
them.
CCRC has an appointed safety adviser.
The safety adviser will advise the club on compliance with its
health and safety duties, it will be for the Club as a whole to
ensure compliance with those duties. Role of safety adviser carries
the full support of the club committee, including the power to
take action to prevent harm to club members and others.
